Greetings readers!I have started is Blog to share my obsession with everything Walt Disney.I want to start is what an answer to a a question that I received from not just anyone bit from my older brother, Mark. So Mark wrote
“You seem to have a GREAT eye for the similarities of settings worldwide. But, as Walt planned the park, he said that he wanted it to look like any town Main Street USA. Would have like to be there for the Tiki Room, Haunted Mansion and Pirate of….. OH, yes Small world, Hall of Presidents. Do they still have the GE rotating Progress family theater?”
So I would like to share some interesting facts and trivia between Disneyland and Magic Kingdom. First lasts start with the number of lands at each park:Disneyland has a total of eight Lands; Main Street, Adventureland, Frontierland , New Orleans Square, CritterCounty, Mickey’s Toontown, Fantasyland, and Tommorrowland.(note: Naming information in regards to the two resorts. Disneyland is only the park. Disneyland Resort referes to both Parks(DL, DCA(Disney California Adventure), Downtown Disney and the Three Hotels( Disneyland Hotel, Paradise Pier, and Grand California). DL Map
Magic Kingdom has a total of seven Lands; Main Street, Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Mickey’s Toontown, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland.(note: Magic Kingdom refers to just that one of the four parks within Walt Disney World Resort. The Naming Walt Disney World or WDW refers to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Disney-MGM Studios, Downtown Disney, Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park, Disney Tycoon Lagoon Water park, 31 Hotels (of various themes), 7 golf courses, 2 miniature golf courses, Disney Wide World of Sport Complex.)WDW MAP Magic Kingdom Map
Disneyland:
POPULATION: 21,000 cast members (employees) in Disneyland Resort
ACREAGE: 85 acres open to the public (430 acres with Disney’s California Adventure, Downtown Disney, and the three resort hotels)
FOUNDED: July 17, 1955
DEDICATED BY: Walt Disney
Walt Disney World
FOUNDED: The Magic Kingdom park opened Oct. 1, 1971, and soon after was dedicated on Oct. 25.
Many celebrities were on hand for the festivities, as well as Walt Disney’s entire family. Arthur Fiedler conducted the World Symphony Orchestra at the base of Cinderella Castle.
DEDICATED BY: Roy O. Disney stood with Mickey Mouse in Town Square and read the dedication plaque.
WDW opened with six themed lands: Main Street, U.S.A.; Adventureland; Frontierland; Liberty Square, a land originally planned for Disneyland; Fantasyland; and Tomorrowland.
Mickey’s Birthdayland was created in 1988 to honor Mickey Mouse’s 60th birthday, and eventually changed its name to Mickey’s Starland in 1990. In 1996, the land changed again to Mickey’s Toontown Fair.)
I located two statements of the total acreage of WDW:
Total acreage of Walt Disney World Resort: 25,000 That’s equal to 40 square miles, or twice the size of Manhattan island.
Total acreage of the Walt Disney World Resort: 30,500 That’s equal to 47 square miles.
